From hidden gifts waiting to be discovered to talents already lighting up local stages, Buckingham is home to a remarkable community of individuals whose creativity, passion and skill are ready for the spotlight. Now the Buckingham Friends of the Library are inviting performers of all ages to step into the spotlight for an exciting new community event designed to entertain, inspire and support a great cause.
“We’re hoping to make this a yearly event,” said Grace Barlow, branch manager of the Buckingham Public Library. “It is going to be a really special thing. It will hopefully become a Buckingham tradition.”
The organization is now accepting applications for its inaugural talent show fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting programs, resources and special initiatives supported by the Friends of the Library. The group currently holds a book sale and raffle basket sale each year to raise funds as well.
“We were ready to add something new and different,” Barlow said. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
Whether you sing, dance, perform comedy, wow audiences with magic, play an instrument or have a unique talent all your own, organizers want to hear from you! Performers of all styles and skill levels are encouraged to apply, solo or in groups. Applications will be accepted through May 30. Talents must be family-friendly and able to be performed during a 5-minute slot. Selected applications will be called back for auditions on June 6 and June 7 then the final list of participants will showcase their talents during the hour-long event on September 12. The show will take place onstage at the Buckingham Community Center with a panel of judges selecting the top three performances, who receive a cash prize.
“We’re hoping it’s going to be everything,” Barlow said of the talents performed. “Anyone can be involved and we’re excited to see all of the different talents!”
The upcoming talent show promises to be a fun-filled celebration of local creativity while helping support the library’s continued impact in the community. Participation fees will apply. Those interested in participating are encouraged to sign up by calling (434) 983-3848, stopping by the library to fill out an application, or visiting https://cvrl.net/.
