Join us at James River State Park for an unforgettable celebration of the cosmos!
Experience the largest annual gathering of astronomers at the park, with volunteer experts ready to guide you through breathtaking views of planets, galaxies, and star clusters. Telescopes will be available for close-up observation, or bring your own and explore alongside our knowledgeable staff.
James River is proud to be a designated International Dark Sky Park, working in partnership with the International Dark Sky Association to protect our night skies from light pollution. This event is your chance to celebrate this incredible accomplishment with us and learn why preserving dark skies matters for wildlife, science, and future generations.
Beyond stargazing, enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, and engaging presentations that will help you navigate the wonders of the night sky. A delicious BBQ food truck will be on-site to keep you fueled for your cosmic adventure. This rare event only happens once a year! Don’t miss your chance for a truly stellar experience at James River State Park!
Please meet at the IDA Viewing Area. Suitable for all ages. Parks are for everyone, please let us know if you need special accommodation.
