Event Series: Wild about Bats!

Wild about Bats!

April 25 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

As the sun dips low and the night draws near, we humans usually turn in for the night…but this is show-time for bats! Join us to celebrate these amazing animals during this special series in collaboration with Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia. You’ll get a rare chance to come face-to-face with these mysterious creatures, learn all about them from local bat rehabilitators, and identify bats in flight using specialized sound-detecting equipment.

This program will be conducted under a covered shelter with seating and includes optional slow-paced walking. The evening will begin with an informational talk about these unique animals, bat-themed crafts, and face painting, and conclude with a walk to detect bats as they come out for early-evening hunting. You will also have the opportunity to meet one the Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia’s rehabilitated bats!

Please meet at Shelter #4. Suitable for all ages. Bring binoculars if you have them, and if you decide to bring a light please use it on a red light setting to avoid disturbing nocturnal wildlife. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and bring a water bottle with you. Parks are for everyone, please let us (434) 933-4355 know if you need special accommodation.

For more information, please call (434) 933-4355 or email Tess.Himelspach@dcr.virginia.gov.
